Glen Carlou favourites awarded top scores
As 2018 approaches the final quarter, we are starting the festivities early – celebrating top scoring wines and prestigious awards in some of the industry’s most anticipated reports and competitions.
We are particularly proud to have five Glen Carlou wines scoring 90 plus points in the Tim Atkin South Africa 2018 Special Report, and three of those wines also achieving equally high scores in the Neal Martin South Africa Report. The 2018 Glen Carlou Collection Chenin Blanc stood out as Atkin’s “wine of the day” and was awarded a significant 95 points.
The list of top scoring wines also included the 30th vintage flagship 2017 Glen Carlou Quartz Stone Chardonnay and Glen Carlou Classic Chardonnay as well as the Bordeaux Blend, the 2015 Glen Carlou Grand Classique. These three wines were also awarded top scores from acclaimed UK wine critic, Neal Martin.
Both Atkin and Martin showed great enthusiasm towards the South African wine industry, it’s future and the distinct rise in quality of South African wines. The International Wine and Spirits Competition board agreed and described this year as the ‘Best year yet for South African wines’. It is a great honour to have the wines of Glen Carlou considered so highly on the lists and reports of these industry professionals.
The International Wine and Spirits Competition, now in its 49th year, judges wine from 90 countries across the world – awarding excellence and the recognition of quality products. The Glen Carlou Grand Classique, Merlot and The Glen Carlou Collection Chenin Blanc won ‘Silver-Outstanding’ medals in the 2018 International Wine and Spirits Competition. This category defines wines with score ratings between 86 and 89.9 points.
Quality does not have to be expensive, the 2017 Glen Carlou Merlot proves just that, after winning Gold at the Ultra Value Wine Challenge this week – a competition identifying the best wines under R100.
