Released this week were two new additions to The Curator’s Collection, a 2015 Viognier and a 2013 Cabernet Franc.
The 2015 The Curator’s Collection Viognier is one of only 2496 bottles made, it shows bright vivacious fruit characters with hints of nuttiness.
Viognier is in the family of aromatic varieties. It can be a difficult variety in warm regions as it ripens quickly, generally leading to wines with higher alcohols. However after many years of not bottling a Viognier as a single variety our Curator’s Collection series has made it possible for me to show you our version of this wine. This 2015 vintage wines colour is light yellow with green glints. It has aromas of white peach, cooked pear, mango and hints of pineapple and fresh cut hay. On the palate some lime and apricot flavours with a slightly nutty finish. Drink now or up to 5 years if you prefer a fuller style.

The range is evolving depending for example on different varieties and what Arco finds interesting or something he has an opportunity to explore. “It is a great way for me to experiment whether it is with different winemaking techniques or access to an interesting parcel of fruit” says Arco.
Also released was the 2013 The Curator’s Collection Cabernet Franc. There were only 1268 bottles of this wine made, which was matured in new French 225 litre oak barrels for 18 months.
This Cabernet Franc is dark and inky red in colour with soft violet hues. The nose has intense aromas and concentrated notes of cassis, ripe currants, violets and sweet spices including black pepper and cloves and cigar box. It has a fresh impact and excellent structure on the palate, it is reminiscent of ripe red fruits with hints of eucalyptus and black currant. This wine has excellent balance and elegance with a well-structured, persistent finish. It will age exceptionally well drink now or the next ten years if you can wait.
