Country Life Magazine’s Best Sauvignon Blancs in South Africa
With the last bit of Summer still in the air, Greg Landman, wine writer and enthusiast, compiled his list of the best South African Sauvignon Blancs.
Both the 2018 Glen Carlou Sauvignon Blanc and the newly released 2017 The Glen Carlou Collection Sauvignon Blanc features on this list of Summer favourites.
Sauvignon Blanc, known as South Africa’s second favourite white wine varietal, can range from easy drinking fruit driven wines to more mineral full-bodied wines depending on where the grapes are harvested and the style in which the wines are made in. Discover Glen Carlou’s two Sauvignon Blancs an elegant expression of terroir, fruit and style.
The 2018 Sauvignon Blanc, wine of origin Cape Town, is a vibrant cool climate styled Sauvignon Blanc, with layered notes of passion fruit, guava and pear. Winemaker, Johnnie Calitz, continues: “The mouthfeel reveals an array of tropical fruit, ripe fig and gooseberry flavours underscored by a crisp minerality. There is a continued presence of gooseberry, capsicum and granadilla throughout, leaving the palate appealing for more. ”
The Collection Sauvignon Blanc was released in 2018 along with a fleet of limited edition wines to make up the new The Glen Carlou Collection. Only 1360 bottles were produced from hand-harvested grapes, fermented naturally in concrete Nomblot egg tanks. This full-bodied Sauvignon Blanc shows great depth with well-balanced acidity, minerality and fruit flavours.
These wines are both available at the winery or on our online wine store.
