The prestigious Gravel Quarry Cabernet Sauvignon is made from the best Cabernet Sauvignon grown at Glen Carlou, each year the vineyards which produce fruit of great depths and concentration are selected.
The 2010 Gravel Quarry was awarded a Gold Outstanding last year at the International Wine and Spirit Competition. Its appearance is dark violet with a magenta-purple hue with good clarity. The distinct Cabernet aromas of black cherry red fruit berries, cedar with some pine-needles and hints of cinnamon are found on the nose. The palate has delicious flavours of mixed berries, black cherries, mint and oak. It is full bodied with firm, round tannins and has good balance. The wine has a rich and full-bodied finish with great length, acidity and tannins. This is an intense wine which will mature beautifully over 4-8 years, order for your cellar here.
The prestigious Quartz Stone Chardonnay is made from a single vineyard which is the oldest block of Chardonnay on the property which was planted in 1989. The soil found in this block is decomposed granite with significant amounts of quart in it, hence its name.
It is made with as little intervention as possible. The block is harvested in one day and the juice after settling for two days goes into new oak barrels and one Nomblot egg. We do not add any yeast thus allowing a natural fermentation. This wine does not go through malolactic fermentation which presents a wine with more restrained acid.
On the nose the wine is bursting with aromas of orange marmalade, lemon custard and ripe stone fruits. The lively aromas are followed by layer after layer of poached pear and candied pineapple on the palate. The finish is fresh and full and is a great wine with food.
