On Friday evening we were awarded a Bacchus Trophy at the 17th TAJ Classic Wine Trophy for our yet to be released 2014 Glen Carlou Chardonnay. One of only sixteen wines awarded one of these prestigious trophies.
A international panel – dominated by Frenchman – of judges sought to recognise and award wines that promote elegance, balance, finesse, ageability and a sense of place.
Arco was thrilled with the result and said “It is great to have this wine recognised by my wine industry peers. We also finished harvest today so it is a great way to acknowledge all the hard work the team have put in this past couple of months”.
The 2014 Chardonnay is one of Glen Carlou’s most iconic wines. The fruit for this wine I sourced from ten different vineyard sites. All fruit for this wine is hand harvested over a three week period resulting in a number of batches with varying sugar and acidity levels. The result is a well balanced wine with elegance and restraint.
Glen Carlou uses special water-bent barrels from a cooper in France. These sophisticated barrels impart a light touching of oak and allow the fruit to express itself producing Glen Carlou’s Classic Chardonnay style.
