Sauvignon Blanc 2019

Glen Carlou Sauvignon Blanc 2019

Sauvignon Blanc Day: 2019 Sauvignon Blanc is here

What are Fridays for, if not for glasses of chilled Sauvignon Blanc and sushi (insert other Friday treat)? As such it delights us that the 2019 Glen Carlou Sauvignon Blanc is released today, a Friday, on International Sauvignon Blanc Day.

Although we need no convincing as to why a glass (or bottle) of Sauvignon Blanc is a good idea, we thought to share with you why Sauvignon Blanc is one of our, and South Africa’s, favourite varietals.

  • A reason for celebration: The 2019 Glen Carlou Sauvignon Blanc is the first wine from the 2019 vintage to be released and a beautiful taste of what to expect from the season.
  • Sauvignon Blanc is crisp, fruity and easy-drinking a pleasurable drinking experience for all.
  • The 2019 Glen Carlou Sauvignon Blanc is an excellent value for money option.
  • This wine is ready for drinking immediately, but can be cellared for up to three years (if you can resist not opening it).
  • This wine is ‘Wine of Origin Cape Town’ – a cool climate maritime pocket in the district of Cape Town, recognized mainly for its spectacular expression of Sauvignon Blanc and Semillon.
  • Sauvignon Blanc pairs well with a variety of dishes, especially sushi, seafood, white meats, fresh herbs, goats cheese and good company. Try Chef Michael Olivier’s suggested pairing of The Collection Sauvignon Blanc with a delicious onion Pissaladière.

We could go on, but we would need another glass of Sauvignon Blanc and we would love for you to taste some first.

The Glen Carlou Sauvignon Blanc is a firm favourite in our range and the addition of the 2017 Collection Sauvignon Blanc, released in November 2018, allows for a diverse tasting experience. These two wines, along with the Collection Semillon Sauvignon Blanc showcase the best of Sauvignon Blanc; from tropical and fresh to smooth and mineral.

The Collection wines are part of a limited release collection with only 1360 bottles of Sauvignon Blanc and 1040 bottles of Semillon Sauvignon Blanc produced. Both wines received a 92-point score from Master of Wine Tim Atkin and are exclusively available to the Glen Carlou Wine Club. Be sure to taste these three wines next time you visit Glen Carlou.

Although winemaker Johnnie Calitz gets particularly excited about these wines, it is not just us that are enthusiastic about Sauvignon Blanc; Greg Landman of Country Life Magazine recently featured both the Glen Carlou Sauvignon Blanc and The Collection Sauvignon Blanc in his article on the Best Sauvignon Blancs. The Glen Carlou Sauvignon Blanc is also enjoyed on board British Airway flights in Club World and is a new listing in Norway’s Vinmonopolet.

Sauvignon Blanc is always a good idea, fill the fridge, treat yourself – stock up on Sauvignon Blanc, you know you want to.
