The results are in for one of the world’s most prestigious wine competitions – the 2020 Decanter World Wine Awards.
During the judging month, 116 expert wine judges including 37 Masters of Wine and nine Master Sommeliers, tasted and debated the merits of 16,518 wines from 56 countries.
We are absolutely thrilled to share the news that the 2017 Gravel Quarry Cabernet Sauvignon has been awarded a Decanter GOLD medal, scoring 96 points! One of only 31 gold medals awarded to South African wine.
This spectacular single vineyard natural ferment wine is the ultimate embodiment of a full-bodied fundamental Cabernet Sauvignon.
The 2017 vintage was truly a spectacular year for Cabernet. The nose shows layers of ripe blackcurrants, red berries, mulberries and hints of cedar and walnuts. A balanced wine, with a flavourful palate rounded out by subtle oak spice and firm tannins. Sealed with a hand-selected premium grade natural cork, offering a zero-taint guarantee.
Watch winemaker, Johnnie Calitz, as he talks through a guided tasting of this rich and decadent Cabernet Sauvignon.
Our Quartz Stone Chardonnay, also a single vineyard natural ferment wine, was awarded 91 points and a Decanter Silver medal.
Furthermore, our Collection Merlot (available on our new online store in the UK) was awarded a 92 point Decanter Silver medal and the latest addition to our portfolio – the 2018 Petite Classique, a Malbec-Merlot blend was awarded a Decanter Bronze medal.
It is a great honour to add these accolades to these already spectacular wines.
Limited quantities of the 2017 Gravel Quarry is still available on our online wine store or in our tasting room, so do not miss out on making this beautiful wine part of your collection.
