Another success for the Winelands.
The Cape Wine Auction is an exhilarating global showcase of South Africa’s finest wines and an opportunity to invest in the future of children, through the auction of one-of-a-kind curated collections, experiences and offers.
The Cape Wine Auction Trust was established in 2014 and has since raised R71 million directed towards improving the education and well-being of children in the Cape Winelands. Currently 27 charities, NGOs and schools benefit from the Cape Wine Auction Trust. 100% of the money raised in the glamorous two-day auction event is allocated towards these beneficiaries. This year the auction raised a generous R17.5 million in aid of this cause.
Glen Carlou is proud to have been part of this event and initiative since its inception. We are highly appreciative of everyone that bid, attended and supported the 2018 Cape Wine Auction and the organisations involved. The Glen Carlou Lot contributed R225 000 to this year’s fund.
This year we partnered with some of South Africa’s best to put together a luxurious wine, food and leisure experience. The Glen Carlou Lot included British Airways Business Class tickets for six people, two nights at 5* The Beverly Hills Hotel in Umhlanga for three couples, a Five Course Wine Dinner lead by Tsogo Sun Group Sommelier Miguel Chan, two nights at Springbok Lodge in Nambiti Private Game Reserve for three couples, EuropCar car rental and a six vintage Glen Carlou Quartz Stone Chardonnay vertical selection. Beyond the luxury experience, the lot also included a Private Five Course Lunch or Dinner event at The Restaurant @ Glen Carlou for 20 guests.
Dan Nicholl, MC and Auctioneer for the Cape Wine Auction event describes how this auction is different to any other event, and one he clears his calendar for. “There’s a deeply personal connection between the auction, its trustees and organisers and the charities and recipients being supported. The auction is about people in the Winelands supporting their own, and that comes through very strongly in the nature of the lots donated, the causes being assisted, and the relationship with those causes, that go beyond just handing over a cheque. That in turn inspires the generosity we see at the auction, and the much-needed success stories that we hear each year.”
The lot with the highest bid was curated by Oneiric Wine Estate and included a stay in the French Riviera along with a private dining experience at JAN, the restaurant of South Africa’s first Michelin Star chef, Jan-Hendrik van der Westhuizen. This Lot raised R750 000.
